Dull gray brown when freshly cut but soon oxidizing to a violet purple. Grain usually straight often with a fine curly figure. Fine texture. Moderately hard to work but takes a glossy, lustrous finish. Lacquer finish will best preserve the color. Also called Amaranth or purpleheart. Typical Uses: Industrial construction, flooring, tool handles, accessories, furniture. |

This exotic wood is light red or violet with fairly evenly spaced purple stripes. The wood is fine grained, hard and heavy, and takes a high lustrous finish. The wood works without difficulty except for gum pockets. Some logs are figured with a wavy, roey grain. Bubinga is typically used furniture, turning and decorative items. |

Also referred to as Hard maple, Rock maple, Sugar maple, Spalted Maple is cream white to reddish brown with mineral streaks and spalting lines, often with a variety of colors. 'Spalt' is created as decaying logs are attacked by fungi. The lumber must be manufactured after decay has started but before the wood deteriorates and becomes spongy. Spalted Maple is typically used for furniture, turnery and fine woodwork. |

Also referred to as Brazilian walnut, this exotic wood's heartwood is yellow-olive to chocolate brown, with variegated streaks and stripes. The grain is usually straight but often wavy or curly, with fine and even growth rings visible. Fine to medium texture. Not strong and has a very low wood bending classification. Moderately stable, fairly hard and heavy. Imbuya is typically used furniture, cabinetmaking, joinery and musical instruments. |

Cocobolo coloring is variegated orange, yellow dark red with irregular black stripes. The wood is hard and heavy, it works and turns well and finishes very smoothly. Oils in the wood produces a natural polish but may cause problems with lacquer or urethane finishes. Typical Uses: Turning, handles, inlay, accessories. |

Also referred to as Eucalyptus, this exotic wood is rich dark brownish red, sometimes marked by short dark brown flecks and beeswing figure. It usually has a straight grain with even but moderately coarse texture, is very durable and highly resistant to insects and makes an excellent wood for outdoor project. Jarrah is typically used for flooring, decks, exterior trim and siding. |

The fresh cut heartwood is reddish-brown, but darkens to deep red or somwhat purplish. Color variation between boards is moderate. The wood is hard, moderately difficult to saw, and has a high blunting effect on cutters. Sawdust from machining may cause respiratory irritation in some individuals. A dust mask or respirator is advised. Typical Uses: Fine furniture, cabinets, interior millwork, flooring. |

Also referred to as Messmate Stringybark, Figured Eucalyptus is pale brown to light brown, somewhat silver or gray. The wood has a coarse and open texture, straight grain with fiddleback or curly figure. The wood responds to machining and hand tools with very little difficulty. Typical Uses are parquet flooring, paneling, veneers, fine furniture, tool handles and musical instruments. |
